COMMUNITY SERVICE PHOTOS

"Leavers' Alive" vehicle rescue demonstration.
August 20, 2008

Part of the initial scene.
The ambulance arrives.
The ambulance volunteers
get to work.
The Light Tanker arrives.
The OIC gathers information.
The 24UT arrives.  The OIC passes info to the crew.
The crew get to work
stabilising the vehicle.
Stabilisation continues.
We need to disconnect
the battery.
One patient was thrown
from the vehicle.
He is assessed...
put on a stretcher...
then carefully,
very carefully,
he is transferred
to the ambulance.
The driver is interviewed,
then cared for by the Ambulance volunteers..
The passenger is
protected from debris.
Getting to work to
open the rear door.
Here we use the cutters
to help open it up.
Hmmm... a tough door
The door is now open,
next is the 'B' pillar.
It's not an easy job
and can take time.
Both front and rear
doors are tied off.
Hmmm... the roof has to come off now.
Cutting the last bit - the windscreen.
The roof is lifted off and placed elsewhere.
We use boards to help slide
the patient off his seat.
Now to a waiting
ambulance.
The Police officer is getting something from her car.
Now let's have another
chat, shall we?
Handcuffed for her
own protection.

Ummm.. Mum, Dad... I think I damaged the car!
We were watched by an attentive crowd.

A big thankyou to the Mount Barker St John Ambulance volunteers, the Western Australian Police Service
and the volunteer "victims" for your help on the day.  Well done to Ewen Hill for coordinating everything.
Cheers to Plantagenet Shire for supplying the vehicle and for the location.
We hope that the students and staff of Mount Barker Community College, Denmark Agricultural College and
Denmark High School learnt something about what the emergency services do at vehicle rescue situations.
Thanks to Kimberley Bell, Jack Frost and Jonathan Hoskin for taking the photographs and allowing their use
on this website and to Kristie Gladwin for supplying the CD for the photographs.
