COMMUNITY SAFETY
Our Members
don't only "put the wet stuff on the hot stuff". They also act
in a proactive manner to prevent fires and other emergencies.
In 2008 we completed the following safety initiatives:
- carried
out pre-plans for businesses among the main shopping area of Lowood Road.
- worked
with Mount Barker Community College to educate students about the "Stay
& Defend, or Go & Go Early" campaign.
- carried
out controlled burns on a number of bush blocks around town.
- participated
in the Plantagenet Shire Local Emergency Management Committee.
- had
representation on the Plantagenet Shire Roadwise Committee.
- had
representation on the Plantagenet Shire Bushfire Advisory Committee.
- worked
with Mount Barker Community College and Narpyn Bush Fire Brigade for MBCC's
"BUZ Week" activities.
- carried
out a major incident exercise with the Mount Barker & Albany State Emergency
Services.
- carried
out a simulated road crash rescue exercise with the Mount Barker St John Ambulance
and Mount Barker State Emergency Service.
- participated
in the biannual "Leavers' Alive" road crash rescue demonstration
with Mount Barker St. John Ambulance and WA Police
Service at
Mount Barker Community College.
- hold
an Open Day for the public during a proposed "Emergency Services Week"
in September.
- visit
the Mount Barker Hill transmitter site for a familiarisation and pre-plan.
- work
with local schools, kindy etc to provide fire safety education with an "Open
Station" week. ("Emergency Services Week")
- work
with Mount Barker Community College for their annual "Mud-run".
We hope to do the following things by the end of 2009.
- visit the
Plantagent District Hospital for a familiarisation and pre-plan.
- visit the
new Elders building for a familiarisation and pre-plan when it opens.
- carry
out more controlled burns around the town site.
In 2007 we
have participated in a number of community safety initiatives including:

conducted
out safety tours of a number of worksites (such as the Mount Barker Co-operative
and the Mount Barker Hotel).

carried
out controlled burns of a number of bush blocks within the town.

worked with
other emergency services and other stakeholders in the Local Emergency Management
Committee.

assisted
older members of the community with their smoke alarms and batteries.
- worked with local schools
and kindergarten to provide fire safety education with an "Open Station"
week.
- had representation on the
Plantagenet Shire Bushfire Advisory Committee.
